I am a 22 yr old F who would like to begin rock climbing as my next hobby. I'm bored with the gym and have heard positive things. I would like to move back to CO and do some actual outdoor climbing. anyway..... I need your help. I don't want to rent equipment because I will buy it eventually no matter what as I said "next hobby". I already received a yr membership to a gym as a present. What exactly will I need?? Shoes Harness Belay Device Helmet (are they mandatory??) Rope? Carabiners? What are "the brands" to get. Can anyone please inform what I should purchase and maybe add some links or websites to help me out? Thanks so much!!! what do you think of this?... http://www.rei.com/outlet/product/774578 Advise is welcome as well but please lets be nice to one and other : ) Yea my membership is at an indoor gym but the cost there to rent is $8 a session. I can buy new equipment after just 10 visits(I get a little obsessed when I find a new exciting hobby that will be 2 weeks = 10 visits) and I have the money so that's not the point. I understand the talking to other woman climbers, that's a great idea(sound like a ditz but I didn't think of that) I've never done outdoor and I lived in CO for 2 yrs. I did very basic indoor classes when I was like 11 so I know absolutely nothing. I am athletic, I ride horses, do the gym thing, b-ball = A+, swimming too. I'm in RI on the east coast and to boot I'm shy as sin just moved from CO originally from WI. The whole going to the climbing gym in the first place is hard : ( lol. Thanks for all the information would love to talk as I get more into it. Also, Backcountry.com = awesome. and after living in CO REI is fantastic if not beautiful, you probably know this but they have a wall at their flagship store. Thanks!!... Read More »
